Henry, originally from Malaysia, visited our Melbourne office to enquire about pathways to permanent residency. He graduated in 2018 with a Certificate III, Certificate IV and an advanced diploma in Commercial Cookery.
Henry currently holds a subclass 484 (temporary) visa. He had completed his TRA provisional skills assessment in 2018 and was undergoing a one-year work experience in order to complete a full skills assessment. He intended to submit a subclass 189 and lodged an Expression of Interest (EOI) in the system. However, he has not been invited to apply.
Furthermore, his current subclass 485 visa will expire at the end of this year, meaning that he would have to return to Malaysia. Our professional migration agents advised him to ask his current employer for sponsorship. His current employer was very happy to help him. However, with less than 2 years of work experience, Henry could not apply for a subclass 482 TSS visa. Nor could he apply for a second subclass 485 visa.
Our consultant gave Henry valuable advice and helped is employer get a sponsorship approval for his employment. We then lodged a subclass 407 Training visa for Henry. With this visa, Henry can continue to work for his current employer and fulfil his second year of work experience as a chef. He will then be eligible to apply for a subclass 482 visa. After three years of the 482 visa, Henry would be able to apply for permanent residence.
