What is the General Skilled Migration (GSM) program?

General skilled migration visa allows skilled people to work and live in Australia. It is a points-based system and the most common form of migration to Australia. It is aimed at highly employable people in occupations with skill shortages willing to migrate to Australia to improve the workforce.

Types of General Skilled Migration (GSM) visas:

  1. Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)

The 189 Visa is available to applicants who are not sponsored by an Australian employer, family member or nominated by a state or territory.

  1. Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)

The Skilled Nominated Visa is available to applicants who are nominated by an Australian State or Territory government.

  1. Skilled Regional Visa (Subclass 489)

The Skilled Regional Visa is available to applicants who can live and work in specified regional parts of Australia for up to four years. They can have either a state or family nomination.
