Case Study: Subclass 489 visa as a pathway to Permanent Residency

aged-care-student-489-visa-pr

John had completed a Certificate III in Aged Care and then completed a Diploma of Nursing (enrolled nurse). He enjoyed studying living in Adelaide and was determined to obtain permanent residency in Australia. He consulted one of experience senior migration agent to see, if possible, to apply for a permanent visa. As an enrolled nurse was NOT on skilled occupation list for 189 visa, it was found that S.A state government would sponsor enrolled nurses for 489 TR visa ONLY.

Having successfully registering with AHPRA as an enrolled nurse and a skill assessment with ANMAC. Work experience as an enrolled nurse was required as a criteria, BUT John only had recent work experience as Personal Care Assistant at an aged care home it was decided to proceed with lodging a state nomination with S.A. government.

After careful and comprehensive research our migration agent put together a strong submission, showing what duties are required by a Personal Care Assistant and Enrolled Nurse and emphasize the common duties of both occupations, also stated Migration Regulations about meaning of closely related occupations

The submission was lodged and John’s nomination was approved, this submission was also useful to explain how the work experience as Personal Care Assistant was sufficient to gain additional 5 points to meet points pass mark required for 489 visa with Immigration Department.

John was granted the s/c 489 visa and will eligible for s/c 887 Permanent resident visa after 2 years since the s/c 489 visa was granted. For s/c 887 visa he will only need to show at 2 years residency in SA and 12 months of work experience
