Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417)
A working holiday visa allows young adults to have an extended holiday in Australia and work to fund it for a period of up to 12 months per visa. Up to three visas may be granted, provided work eligibility criteria are met.
What can you do with a Working Holiday Visa?
- Work for a short-term period in Australia to pay for your holiday here
- Work for up to 6 months for the same employer
- Study for up to 4 months
- Travel to and from Australia as many times as you want
- Do 3 months of specified (rural) work on your first Working Holiday Visa
- Do 6 months of specified (rural) work on your second Working Holiday Visa
- You cannot include family members or dependent children on your application
Key Eligibility Criteria
- Be citizen of and hold an eligible passport from an eligible country/jurisdiction
- Be 18 to 30 years of age (inclusive) at time of application
- OR be 18 to 35 years of age if you are a Canadian, French or Irish citizen
- Have enough funds to support your stay in and travel out of Australia
- Have completed 3 months of specified work to apply for a second Working Holiday Visa
- Have completed 6 months of specified work to apply for a third Working Holiday Visa
- Meet health and character requirements
- Acknowledge and adhere to the Australian Values Statement
Working Holiday Visa Application Process
- Check your eligibility
- Organise health exams
- Inform the Department of Home Affairs if you are planning to engage the services of a registered migration agent to help you apply for the visa
- Gather your identity documents, character documents and proof of sufficient funds
- Apply online and outside of Australia (for your first Working Holiday Visa), and inside Australia for subsequent visas
- Pay the application fee
- Wait for outcome (approximately 9-15 days)
- Be notified of outcome
