145,000 citizenship applications were approved in 2018-19 – a significant improvement over 2017-18 when only 81,000 applications were approved, are the highest in the last five years.
The number of approvals for Australian citizenship by conferral has grown 80 per cent with over 145,000 people approved for Australian citizenship in 2018-19.
The sharp increase comes in the wake of a 15-year low of just 81,000 approvals in 2017-18, the lowest since 2002.
The government says the time taken to make a decision on applications after applicants attend the citizenship interview has also been halved.
